For the Best Installation Results

  • Ideal ambient & VAN METAL SURFACE temperature is between 50-80F
  • Ensure the surface is clean and free of any prior glues, epoxies, insulation etc.
  • Apply the Duckliner in lengths, peeling the adhesive from top to bottom slowly, ensuring even application with no air pockets.
  • Once the glue-side is adhered to the wall, using a roller, roll the entire surface ensuring the glue-side is completely secured.
  • Tape the seams using construction vapour barrier tape to ensure an air-tight envelope.
  • Finish the job by glueing 3M Thinsulate to provide the required 'R' value.

Why combine Duck Liner and Thinsulate?

Duck Liner and 3M™ Thinsulate™ SM600L perform different but complementary roles within a camper van insulation system.

Duck Liner provides a closed-cell layer against appropriate areas of the vehicle body, helping reduce vibration and road noise while adding thermal separation from the metal van shell.

3M Thinsulate SM600L provides lightweight thermal and acoustic insulation within walls, ceilings, doors and irregular vehicle cavities.

A typical Tec Vanlife insulation system can therefore be thought of as:

Van metal → Duck Liner → 3M Thinsulate SM600L → Interior panel

Using the two materials together allows each product to perform the job for which it is best suited.

Duck Liner Camper Van Insulation FAQs

How much area does one box of Duck Liner cover?

One box of Tec Vanlife Duck Liner contains approximately 105 sq. ft. of material before trimming and installation waste. Actual usable coverage will vary depending on the shape of the panels, openings, curves and offcuts created during installation.

How thick is Tec Vanlife Duck Liner?

Tec Vanlife Duck Liner is 3/8 inch thick and features an integrated adhesive backing designed to simplify installation onto properly prepared van surfaces.

Does Duck Liner help prevent condensation?

Duck Liner creates a closed-cell layer between the finished van interior and cold metal surfaces. When properly installed, it helps reduce the opportunity for warm, moisture-containing interior air to contact cold vehicle metal where condensation can form.

Does Duck Liner reduce road noise?

Yes. Duck Liner's closed-cell construction helps reduce vibration and road noise transmitted through the vehicle body, making it useful as part of a camper van thermal and acoustic insulation system.

Should I use Duck Liner with 3M Thinsulate?

For a more complete camper van insulation system, Tec Vanlife recommends combining Duck Liner with 3M Thinsulate SM600L. Duck Liner provides a closed-cell layer against appropriate areas of the vehicle body, while Thinsulate provides additional thermal and acoustic insulation within the walls, ceiling, doors and cavities.

Can Duck Liner be installed on a camper van floor?

Yes. Duck Liner can be incorporated into a camper van floor insulation system. Because floor construction must support occupants, cabinetry and other loads, the complete floor assembly should use materials appropriate for compression and the specific flooring system being installed.

Does Duck Liner need separate adhesive?

Duck Liner features an integrated adhesive backing, so a separate adhesive does not normally need to be applied to the Duck Liner itself. The vehicle surface should be clean, dry and properly prepared before installation to achieve reliable adhesion.

Can I install Duck Liner myself?

Yes. Duck Liner is designed to be DIY-friendly. Carefully prepare the vehicle surface, remove the adhesive backing progressively during installation and use a roller to achieve consistent contact across the material.
